Your Business
in Fujairah Free Zone

Fujairah Free Zone was established by Emiri Decree on 28 November 1987 to diversify the emirate's economy and support long-term industrial and trade growth. Fujairah is the only emirate sitting on the Gulf of Oman, which gives your cargo direct access to the Indian Ocean without passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Shorter shipping routes, lower freight costs.

The zone connects Fujairah Port and Fujairah International Airport, so sea-air cargo, trading and industrial operations all run from one base. It spans over four million square metres and is home to more than 3,500 registered businesses across trading, logistics and manufacturing. If you move physical goods, that combination of deep-water port, airport and warehousing on a single site is hard to match anywhere else in the UAE.

  • Match your licence and activity mix to trading, industrial, marine or logistics operations
  • Handle the licence, visas and bank account from start to finish
  • Prepare banking-ready documentation that cuts down on rejections

Types of Licences Offered in Fujairah Free Zone

Fujairah licenses across trade, industry, marine and investment. Getting the category right at application matters, because several of these need a third-party sign-off before the zone will issue anything:

Trade & Commerce

  • Trading Licence: Import and export inside named product categories rather than across the board. Electronics, building materials, garments, foodstuff and automobile spare parts all sit here.
  • General Trading Licence: The wider version. You import, export and trade across multiple product categories on one licence instead of being tied to a single line. Alcohol, petroleum, petrochemicals, chemicals, tobacco and precious metals are carved out and need their own route.
  • E-Commerce Licence: Selling online, whether that runs through your own storefront or a digital marketplace.
  • Consultancy Licence: The professional services route, spanning management, marketing, HR, IT and real estate consultancy.

Industrial & Marine

  • Manufacturing Licence: Anything you make or finish on site: manufacturing, processing, assembly, production and packaging.
  • Marine Licence: The broadest category on the list, which reflects the port sitting next door. Ship inspection, maintenance and repair, vessel management, chartering, bunker quantity survey, cargo survey, pre-vetting inspections and related maritime services all fall inside it. Fujairah Port signs off before the licence is issued.
  • Aviation Licence: Aviation-related activities drawn from the approved list. Fujairah International Airport clears your application first.
  • Bunkering Licence: Bunkering and bunker trading, the activity the emirate is best known for. This one carries a double approval: a No Objection Certificate from the Department of Industry and Economy, and a second from Fujairah Port.
  • Petroleum Licence: The full downstream chain: import, export, trading, storage, blending and refining. FOIZ and FFZA management approve it upfront.
  • Chemical Licence: Chemical products across import, export, trading and storage.

Holding & Investment

  • Holding Licence: A structuring vehicle rather than a trading one. You hold shares in subsidiaries, own intellectual property, hold real estate assets and manage group companies from it.
  • Investment Licence: Built for deploying capital: venture capital, private equity, portfolio investment, real estate investment and startup funding.

Steps to Set Up in Fujairah Free Zone

Choose your business activities

Pick the activity type that matches your operations: trading, industrial, marine, logistics or service. Different activities sit under different licence categories.

Select your legal structure

An FZE for a single shareholder, an FZC for two or more, or a branch of an existing UAE or foreign company.

Reserve your company name

Prepare two or three options in case your first choice is taken. Names have to follow UAE naming guidelines.

Secure activity pre-approvals

Marine, aviation, bunkering and petroleum licences need clearance from Fujairah Port, the airport or the Department of Industry and Economy before the free zone will proceed.

Complete security clearance

Shareholder security clearance runs 5 to 7 working days. This is usually the longest step in the process.

Choose your premises

Offices, warehouses or land, depending on your licence. Eligible licence types can operate without a physical office.

Submit documentation

MoA and AoA, shareholder passports, company profile, and any activity-specific approvals from step four.

Obtain your trade licence

Once clearance and documents are approved, the free zone can issue the licence within one working day.

Apply for visas and open your bank account

Investor, employee and dependent visas under your Fujairah Free Zone licence. Consultycs prepares a banking-compliant file for account opening.
